The Patriot Pride Weekly

Freedom High School Newsletter #10

October 18, 2026
Dear Patriot Family:

What an incredible week it has been at Freedom High School! As I reflect on our Mamma Mia! Homecoming Week, I am filled with pride and gratitude for the students, staff, families, and community members who came together to make every event so special. From Skit Night and the Powder Puff Game to the Pep Rally, Homecoming Court Presentation, Football Game, and Homecoming Dance, these celebrations provided opportunities for our students and staff to connect, create lasting memories, and strengthen the sense of community that makes Freedom such a special place.
Homecoming is about more than traditions and school spirit. It is about building relationships, celebrating one another, and creating experiences that help students feel connected to their school. Thank you to our Student Government Association, sponsors, teachers, coaches, administrators, and countless volunteers whose hard work helped make this week a tremendous success.
We also have much to celebrate beyond Homecoming. Our Media Center recently earned recognition as the OCPS high school with the highest book circulation in the first quarter, a remarkable accomplishment that reflects our students' commitment to reading and learning. I encourage all Patriots to continue visiting the Media Center, discovering new books, and fostering a lifelong love of reading.
Our fall athletic programs continue to make us proud as well. Congratulations to our Girls Volleyball Team on winning the District Championship, our bowling teams on their outstanding performances at districts, and all of our student-athletes who have represented Freedom with determination, sportsmanship, and Patriot pride throughout the season. Your hard work and dedication inspire our entire school community.
As we move further into the second quarter, let us build on the momentum from these accomplishments. Continue setting goals, working hard, supporting one another, and taking advantage of every opportunity to learn, grow, and get involved.
Thank you for making Freedom High School a place where excellence, pride, and community thrive every day.

WE are FREEDOM!

Student Patriots in the Spotlight

Honoring Excellence On Campus and in the Community

Spotlight on Freedom’s Performing Arts Department

At Freedom High School, the Performing Arts Department is inspiring students to discover their talents, build confidence, and express their creativity every day. Through the dedication of Dr. Antmann, Ms. Davis, Ms. Probst, Mr. Nash-Brown, and Mr. Desmond, our students are given incredible opportunities to grow as performers, artists, and leaders.
Whether students are learning to sing, dance, play an instrument, or bring characters to life on stage, these talented educators foster an environment where creativity thrives, and every student is encouraged to reach their full potential. Their passion, expertise, and commitment help students develop skills that extend far beyond the classroom, including collaboration, discipline, perseverance, and self-expression.
From outstanding performances to daily classroom instruction, our Performing Arts team continually showcases the excellence and talent that make Freedom High School special. We are grateful for their dedication and proud of the countless ways they inspire our Patriots to shine.

Finding Inspiration in Frankenstein and Nature

Students in Mrs. Thompson’s and Mrs. Caminos’ AP Literature & Composition classes spent this quarter diving into Mary Shelley’s classic novel, Frankenstein. Through reading, analysis, creative activities, and thoughtful discussion, students explored the novel’s complex themes and discovered why this influential text continues to resonate with readers more than 200 years after its publication.
As they begin their upcoming poetry unit, students took their learning beyond the classroom by exploring the natural beauty of Freedom High School’s campus. Inspired by their surroundings, they composed original haiku poems, blending observation, creativity, and literary expression. This engaging activity allowed students to connect literature with the world around them while developing their own unique voices as writers.

Early Childhood Education Students Bring Fire Safety Week to Life

Our Early Childhood Education program recently celebrated Fire Safety Week with a series of engaging, hands-on lessons designed and taught by our high school students. Throughout the week, students demonstrated their creativity and teaching skills by leading fire safety-themed activities for young learners.
One standout lesson focused on alphabet phonics, in which children identified letters and their corresponding sounds before "putting out" fires with a fun spray-and-save activity. This interactive experience kept students engaged while reinforcing important literacy and fire safety concepts.
Through activities like these, our Early Childhood Education students gain valuable real-world teaching experience while making learning meaningful and memorable for the children they serve.

Freedom Leads OCPS in Media Center Book Checkouts!

Freedom High School has earned an incredible honor: a trophy as the OCPS high school with the highest number of media center book checkouts during Quarter 1! This achievement reflects our students' enthusiasm for reading, learning, and exploring new ideas through books.
A huge thank you to our students for embracing the joy of reading and to our outstanding Media Center team for creating a welcoming environment that inspires literacy and curiosity every day. This accomplishment demonstrates that Patriots are not only excelling in the classroom, on the field, and on the stage, but also as lifelong readers.
Let's keep the momentum going! Whether you enjoy fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, biographies, or books that help you explore future careers, make time to visit the media center and check out a great book. Together, let's continue building a culture of reading and make Quarter 2 even stronger than Quarter 1.

While our AI Academy highlighted how students are preparing for the future through cutting-edge technology and real-world problem-solving, the event also served as an opportunity to celebrate the incredible accomplishments of our students across campus. From advanced academics and career pathways to award-winning performing arts programs, athletics, clubs, and service organizations, Freedom students continue to excel in countless ways.
The expo provided a wonderful opportunity to share the Patriot story and demonstrate how our dedicated teachers, staff, and students work together every day to create meaningful learning experiences and lasting success.

Patriot Fine Arts & Stage

Showcasing Freedom High’s Music, Theater, and Visual Arts

Paint 2 Students Bring Their Stories to Canvas

Students in Mrs. Watson's Paint 2 classes are putting their artistic talents to work as they apply newly learned painting techniques, including grisaille, tiling, and wipe-back methods, to create original still life paintings. Each student carefully selected objects that represent their past, present, and future selves, resulting in deeply personal and meaningful works of art.
These projects showcase not only the technical skills our student artists are developing, but also their creativity and self-expression. We look forward to seeing the finished masterpieces and invite the Freedom community to admire them when they are displayed later this month. Be sure to stop by and celebrate the incredible talent of our Patriot artists!
