Dear Freedom High School Families,
As we wrap up Week 2 of the school year, I continue to be inspired by the energy, enthusiasm, and commitment displayed by our students and staff each day. Classrooms across campus are already filled with meaningful learning experiences, hands-on activities, collaborative projects, and opportunities for students to engage deeply with their learning. From science labs and forensic investigations to theater, film studies, and career-focused programs, our Patriots are off to an outstanding start.
This week also brought many reasons to celebrate. We proudly recognized our Teacher of the Year, Ms. Ileana De Jesus, and Support Person of the Year, Mr. Victor Ruiz, and honored the exceptional finalists who make a difference in our students' lives every day. We celebrated the success of our Run to the Beat 5K in support of our band program, continued to showcase the achievements of our students and staff, and watched our Patriots become increasingly connected through academics and school activities.
As we continue building momentum, I encourage all families to stay informed about the many opportunities, events, and important updates taking place throughout the year. Student Patriots in the Spotlight

Students in Ms. Singleton's AP Biology class recently participated in an engaging Termite Lab, in which they applied scientific inquiry skills to investigate termite behavior and responses to various environmental factors. Through observation, data collection, and analysis, students gained hands-on experience with the scientific process while exploring real-world concepts related to ecology and animal behavior.
Experiences like this allow our Patriots to move beyond the textbook and develop the critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills essential to advanced science courses and future STEM careers.

Students in Ms. McClish's and Ms. DeJesus' Forensic Science classes put their investigative skills to the test as they surveyed a mock crime scene and analyzed the evidence they collected. Working like real forensic investigators, students carefully observed the scene, documented findings, gathered evidence, and used critical thinking skills to develop conclusions based on the data.
This hands-on learning experience allowed students to apply forensic science concepts in a realistic setting while strengthening their observation, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Great work to our future investigators for cracking the case and bringing science to life through practical application! 🕵️♀️🔬

Students in Ms. Probst's Theater class have been sharpening their acting abilities by working with a variety of assigned lines and scenes designed to strengthen their performance skills. Through engaging activities and practice opportunities, students are developing key theatrical techniques such as vocal expression, characterization, stage presence, confidence, and improvisation.
These hands-on experiences help students grow as performers while encouraging creativity, collaboration, and effective communication. We look forward to seeing our talented Patriots continue to develop their craft throughout the year! Students in Ms. Thompson's Film Studies class have been collaborating to create visual representations of various films, demonstrating their understanding of key themes, messages, and cinematic elements. Through teamwork, creativity, and critical analysis, students conveyed the meaning and impact of their assigned films in engaging, meaningful ways.
This activity encouraged students to think deeply about storytelling while developing communication, collaboration, and presentation skills. By connecting visual expression with film analysis, our Patriots gained a greater appreciation for the art and power of cinema.

Students in Ms. De Jesus' Biomedical Science classes recently stepped into the role of crime scene investigators. As part of a hands-on lab activity, students carefully sketched a mock crime scene and identified key pieces of evidence found throughout the investigation.
Later this quarter, students will further develop their analytical skills by evaluating each piece of evidence, drawing conclusions, and applying scientific reasoning to solve the case. Activities like these provide authentic learning experiences that help students strengthen their observation, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Students in Freedom High School's Horticulture 3 & 4 classes recently attended FNGLA's Landscape Show 2026: "Growing Through Connections," where they explored career opportunities within Florida's horticulture and landscape industries. Students connected with industry professionals, learned about career pathways, and discovered the value of earning industry certifications to prepare for future success.
We are proud of our horticulture students for representing Freedom High School and taking advantage of this opportunity to learn, network, and grow! 🌿💚🌱

This week, one ELA, one Biology, and one Math class were recognized for doing an outstanding job of staying engaged in learning and demonstrating Patriot excellence. As a special surprise, an administrator stopped by each classroom to hand out cookies and celebrate their hard work and dedication!

As we begin the school year, Freedom High School students should use their OCPS-issued laptop at school to ensure secure and reliable access to Canvas, Skyward, testing platforms, and other district resources.
Important Reminders:

All students have been called to pick up their devices. Any student who still needs a device should report to the Media Center.

All students must reset their OCPS password each school year to maintain access to Canvas, Skyward, and other OCPS systems.
- Password resets can be completed while connected to OCPS Wi-Fi before school, during lunch, after school, or during approved class time. Families may also visit any OCPS campus to access OCPS Wi-Fi and complete the process.
- Students will have an opportunity to reset their passwords during the Infrastructure Trial on August 27; however, we strongly encourage them to update their passwords beforehand, as many technology issues are caused by outdated passwords.
- For student technical support, visit the Media Center during 2nd, 3rd, or 6th periods or submit a support ticket at help.ocps.net.

To help keep student accounts safe and secure, OCPS is rolling out a new Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) process for students. This added layer of security helps protect student information and prevents unauthorized access to OCPS accounts from outside the district.
What Students Can Expect:
- Students will be prompted to set up a PIN or choose a picture-based verification option.
- Once setup is complete, students may be asked to confirm their selected option when logging into LaunchPad from home.
- Students can complete this setup process at school or from home.
Need Help? If you experience any issues with MFA setup or login, please submit a technology support ticket (help.ocps.net) and indicate that the issue is related to MFA, or visit the Tech Office during scheduled student tech support periods (2nd, 3rd, 6th).

Need extra help with homework, test preparation, or studying for upcoming assessments? Take advantage of the FREE online tutoring resources available through the Orange County Library System for all OCPS students.
Students can access live tutoring, homework assistance, and test-prep tools by signing up using their student ID number and activating their virtual library card. These valuable resources are available after school and can help students build confidence and academic success.

Get ready for our first Connectivity Day (Freedom Fest) of the school year! Freedom Fest is a great opportunity to connect with fellow Patriots who share your interests while participating in fun, engaging activities hosted by our teachers.
Student sign-ups begin August 31, so start thinking about which activities you'd like to join! Our first Freedom Fest will take place on October 2, giving students the chance to build new friendships, explore interests, and strengthen our Patriot community.

Underclassmen Picture Day for all 9th-, 10th-, and 11th-grade students will take place on August 27 during English classes. Additional information will be shared by English teachers to help students and families prepare for picture day.
Seniors, it's time to schedule your senior portraits! Senior pictures are taken through CADY Studios and require an appointment. Seniors can book their session at cady.com/schedule.
CADY will also be offering an on-campus photo session on September 3, but space is limited. Seniors are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible to secure their preferred appointment time and ensure their photo is included in this year's yearbook.

To allow students to participate in school-day events and activities such as pep rallies, college and career fairs, showcases, and other school-sponsored programs during the 2026-2027 school year, parents/guardians must complete the required Parent Consent Form.
The form can be found in ParentSquare under Forms or Notifications. Students cannot participate in these activities until the form has been completed and signed.

The deadline to fill out the form is Sept. 1.

Congratulations to our very own Mr. Nash Brown, who recently took the stage in the musical production The Prom! Mr. Nash Brown delivered an outstanding performance, showcasing his incredible talent and passion for the arts beyond the classroom.
His work was recognized throughout the community, with the production earning coverage in both the Orlando Sentinel and Orlando Weekly. We are proud to celebrate Mr. Brown's achievement and the dedication, creativity, and excellence he brings to Freedom High School every day.

Patriot Athletics Spotlight
|
The Patriots Girls Volleyball team opened the week with a hard-fought 3-2 road loss to Gateway High School, highlighted by strong performances from V. Callaway (16 kills), V. Talavera (24 digs), and setters Gabriella Luiz (27 assists) and D. Deturck (20 assists). The JV team earned a 2-0 victory.
The Patriots bounced back in their home opener with a 3-1 Varsity win over Tohopekaliga High School, while both the Freshman and JV teams remained undefeated with 2-0 victories. Offensively, V. Talavera (12 kills), V. Talavera (11 kills, 5 aces), and V. Callaway (10 kills) led the way, while S. Rodriguez added 16 digs on defense.
The Varsity team now sits at 1-1 on the season and travels to face Wekiva High School next week.

The Freedom High School JV Football Team took the field Wednesday night for its first game in two years, facing the Olympia High School Titans. The Patriots carried an 8-6 lead into halftime after a touchdown connection from A. Gonzalez to D. Bianconi. Despite a strong effort, Freedom fell 20-8 in a weather-shortened contest.
We are proud of our Patriots for their hard work and determination, and look forward to watching this young team continue to grow throughout the season!

The Run to the Beat 5K, held on Saturday, August 22, was a fantastic celebration of fitness, family fun, and Patriot Pride in support of the Freedom High School Band. The event was filled with smiles, energy, and community spirit as students, families, staff members, and community supporters came together for a great cause.
We are grateful to everyone who participated, volunteered, and cheered on our runners. Your support helps our talented band students continue to grow and create unforgettable experiences throughout the year.
