The Patriot Report

Freedom High School Newsletter #24

May 10, 2026
Dear Freedom High School Community,

As we reflect on another busy and successful week, I am filled with pride for all that our Patriots continue to accomplish. From academics and the arts to athletics, service, and student leadership, the dedication and hard work shown across our campus truly highlights what makes Freedom such a special place.
Last week, we had the privilege of celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week, and it was a meaningful reminder of the heart of our school—our staff. Our teachers, support staff, office team, custodial crew, cafeteria staff, and administrators consistently go above and beyond to support our students academically, socially, and emotionally. Their commitment, compassion, and professionalism create the positive culture that allows our students to thrive each day.
Because of our incredible staff, we continue to see students succeed in the classroom, showcase their talents in performances and competitions, and step forward as leaders in our school and community. I am sincerely grateful for the teamwork, resilience, and passion our staff demonstrates daily in service of our students.
Thank you to our families, partners, and community members for your continued support, and thank you to our staff for everything you do to make Freedom High School a place where excellence and Patriot pride shine. Together, we will continue to finish this school year strong.

With Patriot Pride,

Charles M. France

We Are......

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all of our teachers, front office, custodial, and cafeteria staff for everything you do each and every day. Your dedication, teamwork, and commitment to our students have made this an amazing year so far. Because of you, Freedom High School continues to be a place where excellence, pride, and community thrive—We are Freedom!

Once Upon a Time at Freedom…

Once upon a time, and every day thereafter, our incredible staff is always there when our students need support, guidance, and care. From the classroom to the front office, from hallways to the cafeteria, our team consistently steps up to make sure every student feels safe and supported. This past weekend, our story continued at prom, where our amazing chaperones ensured a magical, safe, and memorable night for our students. Thank you for always answering the call, going above and beyond, and helping make every Freedom moment a success. And so, the story continues, because of you.

School Spirit Shines at the Front Desk

We love celebrating the staff who bring Patriot pride to life through our school spirit days! This week, we are highlighting our wonderful front desk ladies, Ms. Olivo and Ms. Garcia. Not only do they work tirelessly every day, greeting our families and students with warm smiles and welcoming attitudes, but they also do it with grace and style, dressing up each day to fully embrace Spirit Week. Thank you for setting the tone for our school, spreading positivity, and showing what it truly means to be Freedom proud! 💙❤️

Freedom Patriots Published Authors

We are excited to celebrate an outstanding achievement by our student writers at the Page 15 Anthology Book Launch Party. This year, three Freedom Patriots from Ms. Hjelm's class were published, with two students attending the reading and signing event at the Orlando Museum of Art.
Our students entered a highly competitive contest featuring over 150 submissions in January. From that pool, only 15 Central Florida students were selected to work closely with a professional editing team to prepare their pieces for publication. Each published story was also paired with an original commissioned artwork, created specifically to accompany the student’s writing and displayed on the facing page.
We are proud to recognize Maya Isabelle Francois and Laura Romero for representing Freedom High School through their creativity, dedication, and literary talent. Congratulations to all of our published Patriots for this remarkable accomplishment—we are so proud of you! 📖✨

Celebrating Excellence at the FFA Banquet

Our recent FFA Banquet was a wonderful evening dedicated to celebrating the hard work, leadership, and accomplishments of our outstanding FFA students. Throughout the night, many awards and recognitions were presented, showcasing students’ dedication, growth, and commitment to the agriculture program.
A special thank you to Ms. Dodge and Ms. Westgate for everything they have done this school year to promote and strengthen our agriculture and horticulture program. Their passion, guidance, and unwavering support have made a meaningful impact on our students’ success. We are incredibly proud of our FFA family and grateful to everyone who helped make this celebration such a memorable event.

Barry AI Classes Showcase Innovation

Our Barry AI students in Mr. Hellhake's class wrapped up the semester with impressive end-of-semester presentations that highlighted their creativity, problem-solving skills, and real-world thinking. Students were challenged to design systems that would simplify life for both teachers and students, and they rose to the occasion. Their presentations featured innovative app ideas to streamline discipline processes, improve cafeteria systems, and enhance classroom organization and efficiency. We are proud of the thoughtful collaboration and forward-thinking solutions our students demonstrated—an exciting glimpse into how technology and teamwork can make a meaningful impact at Freedom.

Celebrating Our Yearbook Team

We are proud to recognize our dedicated Yearbook sponsor, Coach Pennington, who was recently honored for successfully completing this year’s yearbook. Producing a yearbook is no small task, and his leadership, commitment, and guidance helped bring this meaningful project to life. We are equally proud of his yearbook students for their hard work, creativity, and perseverance in completing such a challenging and rewarding endeavor. Congratulations to all on a job well done! 📘👏

Inspiring Writers Through an Author Visit

Several of our classes had the exciting opportunity to participate in a recent author visit, Pastiche Graham, that sparked thoughtful conversation and creativity. Students engaged in meaningful questions about the author’s book and gained valuable insight into the writing process, from developing ideas to bringing stories to life. The visit encouraged curiosity, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation for reading and writing, leaving our students inspired and motivated to explore their own voices as writers.

We Did It—A Reading Milestone Achieved!

We are thrilled to celebrate an incredible literacy accomplishment at Freedom High School! During the Let’s Read, OCPS! reading challenge, our students and staff surpassed our 2025–26 goal of 1.5 million minutes of reading logged in Beanstack. This achievement reflects our school-wide commitment to reading, learning, and fostering a love of literacy. Thank you to our students, families, and staff for making reading a priority—your dedication truly made this milestone possible. We are so proud of our Patriots! 📚❤️💙
