This accomplishment reflects the dedication of our students, staff, families, and community, and it serves as a reminder of what we can achieve when we work together.
We are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and look forward to a year filled with new successes, meaningful experiences, and inspiring Patriot stories. We are confident that our outstanding teachers and staff will continue to support, challenge, and encourage every student as they grow academically, socially, and personally.

Student Patriots in the Spotlight

As Freedom’s students begin the year with a focus on rigor, collaboration, and goal setting, our AVID classes are already setting the tone for success. In AVID 10, students in Ms. Brown’s, Ms. Read’s, and Ms. Martinez’s classes participated in a Goal Setting Gallery Walk, reflecting on their aspirations and identifying steps to achieve them. Meanwhile, AVID 9 students took on the engaging A-Maze Me activity, working together to uncover hidden patterns and successfully navigate a challenging maze. These activities encouraged critical thinking, perseverance, teamwork, and problem-solving skills that will support students throughout the school year. |
The school year is off to an exciting start as our PTV team, led by Mr. Copeland, and our Yearbook staff, led by Coach Pennington, are already collaborating to capture the stories that make Freedom High School unique. From school events and student achievements to performances, athletics, and campus traditions, these talented students are working behind the scenes to document and share the moments that showcase Patriot excellence. Their dedication helps preserve memories, celebrate accomplishments, and highlight the many talents that make our Freedom community special. |
Our Student Government Association (SGA) has been hard at work welcoming students and creating an exciting start to the school year. From assisting fellow Patriots during the first days of school to promoting school spirit, SGA members have exemplified leadership and service. To help students get game-day ready, they even offered face painting during lunch, building excitement and Patriot pride ahead of our football game. We appreciate these student leaders for helping create a positive and spirited atmosphere across campus! |
During lunch this week, our Freedom High School Sea Cadets proudly showcased their program, sharing information about the unique leadership, citizenship, and service opportunities available to students. Cadets engaged with their peers, answered questions, and highlighted the valuable skills gained through participation, including teamwork, discipline, and personal growth. We are proud of these student leaders for representing their program and inspiring fellow Patriots to get involved and explore new opportunities. |
Over the summer, Freedom High School students proudly represented our school at the ISTE Live 2026 Conference, one of the nation's premier educational technology events. As part of a collaborative student-teacher presentation, our Patriots shared valuable insights into what makes educational software effective and engaging for learners. Students provided feedback on the features, tools, and user experiences that best support learning, while highlighting the importance of student voice in the design of educational platforms. Their professionalism, thoughtfulness, and expertise showcased the innovation, leadership, and future-ready mindset that define Freedom High School. We are incredibly proud of these students for representing Patriot Nation on a national stage! |
Students wishing to request a schedule change must complete the Schedule Change Request Form while logged in to their OCPS student account. The form is the only method for requesting schedule changes and will close on August 18 at 3:00 PM.
Before submitting a request, families should carefully review the available elective options and understand that approved changes may result in adjustments to a student's class periods, teachers, and lunch assignments. Once a request is submitted, it cannot be reversed or undone by counselors.

Looking for an opportunity to complete community service hours while supporting Freedom High School? The House of Patriots is seeking student volunteers to assist with various school events throughout the year. From helping with special events to supporting school activities, there are many ways to get involved and make a difference in our Patriot community.

As we begin the school year, students should use their OCPS-issued laptop at school to ensure secure and reliable access to Canvas, Skyward, testing platforms, and other district resources.
Important Reminders:
- All students have been called to pick up their devices during the first week of school. Any student who still needs a device must report to the Media Center during the first period.

All students must reset their OCPS password each school year to maintain access to Canvas, Skyward, and other OCPS systems.
- Password resets can be completed using OCPS Wi-Fi before school, during lunch, after school, or during approved class time. Families may also visit any OCPS campus to access OCPS Wi-Fi and complete the process.
- For technical support after resetting a password, visit help.ocps.net.

Underclassmen Picture Day for all 9th-, 10th-, and 11th-grade students will take place on August 27 during students' English classes. Additional information will be shared by English teachers to help students and families prepare for picture day.
Senior Pictures are taken directly through CADY Studios and require an appointment. Seniors can schedule their session at cady.com/schedule. In addition, CADY will be offering two upcoming on-campus photo sessions, September 3 & October 29, but space is limited. Seniors are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible to secure their preferred appointment time.

To allow students to participate in school-day events and activities such as pep rallies, college and career fairs, showcases, and other school-sponsored programs during the 2026-2027 school year, parents/guardians must complete the required Parent Consent Form.
The form can be found in ParentSquare under Forms or Notifications. Students cannot participate in these activities until the form has been completed and signed.

The deadline to fill out the form is Sept. 1.

Patriot Fine Arts & Stage

Students in Mrs. Watson’s Advanced Painting classes are exploring the science and artistry of paint-making by creating their own handmade paints from scratch. Using color pigment powders, students carefully mixed their pigments with a binder of choice, including gum Arabic for watercolor, safflower oil for oil paint, or gel medium for acrylic paint. Through this hands-on experience, students gained a deeper understanding of the materials and processes artists use to create their work. Their next step will be putting their custom-made paints to use as they create original paintings that showcase both their creativity and newly acquired skills. |
Patriot Athletics Spotlight

The Freedom High School Girls Volleyball team is off to an outstanding start, earning victories in both of their preseason matches this week. The Lady Patriots defeated Sebastian River 2-0 and followed with an exciting 2-1 win over Cypress Creek, showcasing teamwork, determination, and competitive spirit on the court.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Ettie Singleton, the team demonstrated resilience and strong play as they began what promises to be an exciting season. Congratulations to Coach Singleton and the Lady Patriots on a fantastic start to the year. We look forward to cheering on their continued success throughout the season!

Freedom High School's Cross Country team kicked off the 2026-2027 season in impressive fashion, with every athlete achieving a personal record (PR) at the team's first meet of the year. Their hard work and dedication throughout the offseason were on full display as the Patriots raced to an outstanding start.
A special congratulations goes to team captain Jackson Butler, who finished 13th overall and set a new Freedom High School Cross Country school record with an incredible time of 18:31. His achievement is a testament to his commitment, leadership, and perseverance.
With personal records falling across the team and a new school record already in the books, the future is bright for Patriot Cross Country. Congratulations to our runners and coaches on an amazing season opener. We can't wait to see what they accomplish next!

Students: if you plan to participate in any sport during the 2026-2027 school year, please complete all required athletic paperwork via the link below before attending practice. Being paper-ready helps ensure a smooth start and allows students to participate without delays.
The good news is that these forms only need to be completed once for the entire school year, regardless of how many sports a student participates in.

Teachers embraced the tropical theme by wearing their favorite beach attire, bright colors, and fun accessories, helping create a welcoming and positive atmosphere for students. Freedom High School invites parents, staff, business partners, and community members to attend our first School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting of the 2026-2027 school year on Monday, August 17, at 6:00 p.m. in the Media Center.
SAC provides an opportunity for stakeholders to share ideas, support student success, and help shape the future of our school. During this meeting, elections will be held for the 2026-2027 SAC Board positions of Chair, Co-Chair, and Secretary, and all attendees present will have the opportunity to vote.
We encourage all members of the Freedom community to get involved and make their voice heard as we work together to support every Patriot. We look forward to seeing you there!
