I hope this message finds you well and filled with Patriot pride, because we certainly are! Over the past several weeks, our students have continued to impress us with their dedication, talent, and achievement across campus. From exciting victories on the field to outstanding performances on the stage, our athletes and performing arts students have shown what it truly means to represent Freedom with excellence, heart, and perseverance. We are proud of every student who has trained, practiced, competed, and performed at such a high level. Their commitment reflects the very best of our school community.
As we celebrate these accomplishments, we also look ahead to an important academic season. SAT preparation and statewide testing are just around the corner, and we want every student to feel confident and supported. I encourage all students to take advantage of the many resources available, from tutoring to practice exams, online tools with Khan Academy, teacher support, and after‑school study opportunities. Preparing consistently now will make a meaningful difference when testing begins.
We are also entering our course selection season for the upcoming school year. Students and parents play a vital role in this process, and we ask families to review the steps for creating next year’s schedule together through Xello. Please take time to go through the Program Guide carefully, explore electives, understand graduation requirements, and ensure that selections align with long‑term college and career goals. Thoughtful planning now helps set students up for a successful and enriching year ahead.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support. Our students continue to thrive because of the collective effort of our families, staff, and community. We look forward to a strong semester filled with growth, achievement, and many more reasons to celebrate.
This week, Mr. Gordon guided students through a powerful exploration of the impact of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, helping them deepen their understanding of its global economic, social, and human consequences in his African American History Honors Classes. Students engaged in a close‑reading activity where they highlighted key academic terms, identified cause‑and‑effect relationships, and examined how the trade shaped societies across continents.
Working collaboratively, students analyzed a detailed historical data chart, using teamwork and discussion to interpret patterns, trends, and the broader implications of the information presented. Through thoughtful guidance and structured collaboration, Mr. Gordon created an environment where students not only built content knowledge but also strengthened essential critical‑thinking skills.
Infant Care in Action: Early Childhood Education II Students Take On RealCare Babies
Students in Mrs. Longstaff’s Early Childhood Education II class are putting their infant‑care knowledge to the test through the RealCare Baby project. Over four days, students care for lifelike infant simulators, both at school and at home, while juggling the demands of everyday high‑school life.
Through this hands‑on experience, students practice essential caregiving skills such as safe handling, feeding and burping, diapering, soothing, and understanding infant routines. The RealCare Babies track how well students respond to their needs, giving meaningful feedback on responsibility, time management, and caregiving accuracy.
To wrap up the unit, students review their performance data and reflect on what they learned—gaining valuable insight into the challenges of infant care and the real‑world responsibilities of caregivers. We are proud of the maturity and dedication our ECE II students have shown throughout this project!

Counselors Begin Course Planning Season With Middle School Visits & Grade-Level Assemblies
Our school counseling team has been hard at work preparing students for a successful start to the 2026–2027 school year. Over the past week, counselors visited our feeder middle schools to meet with rising 9th graders, introducing them to the wide range of academic programs and opportunities available at Freedom High School. During these visits, counselors also guided students step‑by‑step on how to select courses and add them to their Xello course planner, ensuring every future Patriot begins high school with a clear and confident plan.
In addition to the middle school outreach, we hosted grade-level assemblies for our current 9th, 10th, and 11th graders. During these sessions, counselors reviewed graduation requirements, discussed elective and pathway options, and launched the official course request process for the 2026–2027 school year. Students were given important information to help them make informed decisions about next year’s schedule and their long‑term academic goals.
We’re grateful to our counseling team for their dedication in supporting students through this important planning process—and we look forward to another exciting year of academic growth and opportunity at Freedom High School!

Spotlight on the Arts: Where Patriot Talent Shines
Patriots Prepare for FFCC Premier After Intense Weeks of Practice
Our incredible percussion students have been giving it their all in preparation for the FFCC Premier on January 31st at Cypress Creek HS. This dedicated group has been practicing late into the evenings throughout the week—and even spending all day Saturday perfecting their performance. Their commitment, discipline, and passion shine through every rehearsal.
This year, our students will compete in the District 8 Percussion category as an independent group, a placement that adds both intensity and challenge to the competition. Performing independently pushes them to a higher level of artistry and precision—but our students are no strangers to high expectations. After all, they proudly took first place last year, and they are determined to bring that same excellence to the Premier.
We are so proud of their hard work, perseverance, and team spirit. We can’t wait to cheer them on and watch them showcase their talent on January 31st!
