 Hello Patriots. Welcome to Freedom High School where learning is our top priority and our focus is on literacy, rigor and relationships. Our school's pillars of honor, excellence and tradition continue to be on display on a daily basis by our students, staff and community.
We have come to the end of the third quarter which means spring break is among us. Please take the time to rest, relax, and re-charge as we gear up for the final quarter of the school year which will include important assessments as well as the final days for our senior class of 2019.
Seniors, I encourage you to enjoy the remaining days of your high school career, finishing strong as we approach graduation on May 24.
Our spring sports are also in full swing. I hope to see you at our events, cheering on our student-athletes as they proudly represent FHS competing to their best ability. Also, I recommend you attend one of the dates for our upcoming spring musical,
Merrily We Roll Along. Our performing arts students have been working hard to prepare a wonderful show. I am certain you will be thoroughly entertained.
Thank you to all that completed our 2019 AdvancEd Survey. Your input is much appreciated and is extremely important as we use this feedback to enhance our learning.
Thank you FHS parents & guardians for your unwavering commitment to your child's success. This year is about teaching children to do 'Whatever It Takes' for them to be successful.

Merrily We Roll Along begins in the present and moves backwards, tracing the lives of wealthy, jaded composer, Franklin Shepard, and his two estranged friends through each milestone of their personal and professional lives (good and bad). The show ends with a touch of rueful irony, as the three best friends at the start of their careers face a bright future: young, talented and enthusiastic about the worlds waiting to be conquered. The show runs April 4 - 6 at 7:00 pm in the FHS Performing Arts Center.
Remember Patriots, should you ever see or hear of something suspicious or unusual, please say something to any teacher, staff member, coach, or school resource officer as soon as possible.

Project Lead the Way at University of Florida
The Project Lead the Way (PLTW) students spent a day at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. The students participated in many rigorous and quality hands on activities. During one activity, FHS students built a pet alarm that would alert humans that their pet was in the car. In another learning lab, the reverse engineering technique was used and applied to a common household product.

Spirit of Excellence winner
Congratulations to FHS ELA instructor, Ms. Sian Heetai, for receiving the OCPS Spirit of Excellence Award for her dedication to improving student understanding and academics of the English language through hard work and dedication. OCPS will recognize and honor Ms. Heetai at the Spirit of Excellence Awards Ceremony on April 24th at 6:00 pm at Evans High School.

In Mrs. Amanda Kraemer's AP Statistics classes, her students were discussing their responses to sample AP Multiple Choice questions from their Inferential Statistics cumulative exam. In a cooperative learning activity, group members worked together to agree on solutions and later compete against other groups. Click

College and Career Graduation Honor Cord
Parents and students: During graduation this year, seniors will have the opportunity for the first time in school history to wear an honor cord during graduation. The cord will be for any student who has completed at least one of the following:
a. Passed an AP exam with a 3 or higher
b. Passed a college dual enrollment class with a C or better
c. Passed an approved industry certification (most of these are in CTE courses)
All of these prove that the student has gone above and beyond the normal high school requirements and is officially college and career ready, so we want to recognize them.
If your student has not done one of the above, we will be offering weekend sessions to prepare for industry certifications after Spring Break, so please stay tuned as more information will be forthcoming.
Programs
Many programs are available at Freedom High School to offer unique academic opportunities for our students. These programs require an application or audition. It is the student's responsibility to contact the sponsor to complete the application or inquire about auditions. To find out more about the programs available:
Senior Exit Interviews
Counselors will be meeting with all seniors beginning on April 1, 2019 to review credits, post-secondary plans, scholarships, procedures for ordering a final transcript, and seniors will complete the online exit survey. Current Valencia Dual Enrollment students should make an appointment with their counselor.

Undecided Day: Tuesday, April 23rd during 2nd and 3rd periods
Any seniors that do not have post-secondary plans should see their counselor for an invitation to Undecided Day. Many local programs will be available with information to assist with career planning and training.
FAFSA - Financial Aid for College

College Acceptance Letters
Seniors should bring a copy of their college acceptance letter to their school counselor during their lunch. The counselor must have a copy of the acceptance letter to be invited to the Decision Day celebration.
The Economic Benefits of an Education (U.S. Dept. of Labor - 2018)
Note: The United States Department of Labor - Bureau of Labor Statistics recently released their annual educational attainment findings for 2018. What they found was that the usual pattern held once again last year: the chances of being out of work fall with more education while weekly earnings rise with more education. The situation is worse for those with less education when the economy slows or enters a recessionary period - supporting data table.

The varsity wrestling team continued their dynasty-like dominance winning their 6th consecutive district championship and their 5th consecutive Metro Conference Championship. The team also qualified four wrestlers,
David Pagan, Erick Rocher, Christian Fields, and
Lens Mathurin, for the State Wrestling Championships. Congratulations to senior,
Christian Fields, who placed 6th in the State. The wrestlers also displayed their dominance in the classroom as they posted the #2 GPA in the state.

Our girls wrestling team had an incredible, break-out season finishing runners up in the state with six individual state placers and three state champions. Congratulations to our three state champions, Marthine Laguerre, Issa Delgado, and Elizabeth Dillard. |

Tickets for Senior Day will be on sale. Tickets will be sold for $30 each cash only after school inside the cafeteria.
April 25: Senior Common Formative Exams Periods 2 & 4

Grad Bash 2019 at Universal Orlando Studios and Islands of Adventure
Attendees (FHS seniors only) will meet in the cafeteria at 4:30 pm to board buses (you must ride bus; no student driving) then return to FHS by 2:30 am. Attendees must ride the bus to and from Universal. No exceptions.
